Termite Poison DIY

I tried searching for termite poison for sale in local supermarkets like Giant, Tesco but was not successful. When I googled for "termite poison diy malaysia" I was surprised I could not find much info(there was one but the termite bating box costs USD29 one!). It was with the help of my brother and mother that we managed to find something called a Termite Paste in a hardware shop.

It's written on the box:
Alpha-cypermethrin 0.04%
Tetramethrin 0.80%

["Shanjia" brand killing white-ant ointment is the health insecticide of the special killing white-ant, please put the ointement a little to press inner the ant-den, or the and every ant-road in and out often while use. It is brought into the and den by the male-ant. The ant will be interncine after eating. It will be dead after several days.] - typical China product with superb English translation.

However, it's quite easy to understand. You put some poison near the termite place; the termite bring the poison back to the den; all termites there exposed to the poison; everyone dies and if lucky, whole colony eliminated!

TerNite-killer Paste, haha!

I found these termite nests on the wall of my living hall. Not sure why they built it there. It is very exposed and caught my eyes immediately. There is no use scrapping that off or spraying insecticide because the termite will rebuild them within a day(or a few hours!).

Well, time to Kill That Termite!

I put masking tape to cover them up like the previous professional who came to my house did(read my previous post). He said, "Don't touch it for one week!". That's exactly what I did this time.

Time passes really quick. Time to peel off the masking tapes. I see some dead termites here.

Very good, no re-building by the termites. So I monitor this for about a three weeks already and still no re-building, great. Either I very successfully killed them or they moved to other places. But still, what more can I do right? Just monitor vigilantly and if found again, kill them again!

Time to conceal those holes and paint back!

If you're interested to try this method and you could not find the product near you, e-mail me and I try to buy it and mail to you. Can not guarantee whether it will work for your situation but everything's worth a try. And trust me, I understand your situation, you'd just like to KILL THAT TERMITE!

How it all began…

We moved into our new house(Bukit Tinggi Klang, Malaysia) end of 2010 and thought it was most perfect house ever. We had nice kitchen cabinet, tv console, etc. Everything was fine until one fine day, I noticed this small ants-like-creature terrorizing my store room door(which was made of wood). It wasn’t long before I confirmed it was termite. I think like many other people who saw it for the first time, my first intention was to get the incest repellant to spray them straight to hell! AND that was exactly what I did. To my amazement, although they did die at first, but they kept coming back like nobody’s business. Spray, die, then come again. Spray, die, then come again. Well, what can I say? At least I respect their persistence.

So I had no choice but to call a professional service to have a look at the situation. So the guy came, quite a nice guy. He had a look at my store room door and immediately knew what I have done. “You shouldn’t have spray anything!”, he said. Well, according to him, he was going to apply some termite poison(powder type) to the affected area. If it was undisturbed, the termites there would get sprayed by this poison and once they carry this back to the nest, the rest of the colony gets infected too and they would die. After inspecting more parts of my house, he found more of these termite nests and applied the same powder. He said I was lucky because the infestation was just beginning. After applying the poison, he would seal it with tape and instructed me not to touch it until he comes back one week later.

A week passed and the guy return for the second treatment. He opened the sealed spots and found no termites anymore. Non-returning, yeah! So I guess it worked! The colony is killed. The second treatment was actually to spray the corner of the whole house with poison(this time liquid type). We did not get the house drilled(as it was a new house will nice 2ftx2ft tiles!) so he sprayed only the perimeter of the house, including upstairs. The roof wasn’t sprayed as they were constructed by aluminum/metal so nothing for the termites to eat there(lucky).

The two time treatment costs us RM150. The guy mentioned that he couldn’t give us warranty for the treatment as we did not go with drilling. If we did do the drilling, he could give us a warranty of two years.

Two months passed and I was monitoring the house closely. No recurring incident. Good..till one fine day again where I spotted those familiar sandy spots again! This time on the wall..arrgghh! Not sure why the termites show me where they are out in the open but sad, I have problem again. I call my professional termite exterminator again to tell him about the problem and he said he will return my call to fix an appointment. He never did. I call and call again and his answer would be he is busy doing some big house drilling somewhere and would return my call. Never did. My good guess is that for him to travel for my house just to spray some powder and earn some small fee(less than RM50 I guess) would be a hassle for him.
